How to Improve Wrist Snap in Lacrosse for Power & Accuracy
Why Wrist Snap Matters
Your wrist snap is what makes the difference between a slow floater and a crisp, accurate rocket. The good news? You can train it.
Understanding the Wrist Snap
The wrist snap is the final acceleration point in your throwing motion. While your body generates the initial power, your wrists add the whip that makes shots unstoppable.
Drill 1: Wrist Flicks
Hold your stick with one hand at the bottom. Keeping your arm still, snap your wrist to throw the ball at a wall. Focus on quick, explosive wrist movement.
- 3 sets of 20 reps per hand
- Start close (5 feet) then move back as you improve
Drill 2: One-Handed Wall Ball
Same as regular wall ball, but using only your top hand or bottom hand. Forces you to rely on wrist strength and snap.
Drill 3: Medicine Ball Throws
Hold a light medicine ball (2-4 lbs) and snap it against a wall using the same wrist motion as your lacrosse throw.
Off-Stick Strengthening
- Wrist curls: Use dumbbells or resistance bands
- Grip strengtheners: Build overall hand and wrist strength
- Forearm exercises: Farmer's carries, dead hangs
The Bottom Line
Train your wrist snap 3-4 times per week. You'll notice improvement in shot velocity within 2-3 weeks of consistent training.
